Medications are designed to only be sufficiently effective within a certain period of time, and that is why they have an expiry date. Over time, their effectiveness can reduce due to, perhaps, storage issues or the breakdown of the packaging.

Expiry dates are there for a reason, in terms of, medications do have what we call a shelf life. They do lose their effectiveness after a certain period of a time. It does not mean to say that if something is going to go out-of-date tomorrow and that was the only medication there, that you could not use it. But it is a guideline towards the fact that it should not be used after a certain date. Some medications are best before, others are by the end of a particular date on there. So it is important to make sure that the medication, not necessarily that it will be detrimental to you if we use this medication, but it actually does have the right effect.
